Thanks Joe, I definitely considered this, but I can get an OEM print head new for $150 and I have a technician friend who said he will do it for $45. Epson stylus photo 1400 printhead replacement plus#Why? A replacement head plus installation will cost you more than a new Artisan 1430 which a better printer. I will put a towel under the head and check, also do the reset, and if worse case, get a replacement head. Once again, you all have come together to give me so more choices. If using filled cartridges (and Epson ones I believe still use a sponge inside, which the refillables don't) so difficult to see if actually any ink there due the sponge, which can dry out so try this check - either refilling or replacing as necessary. If you use refillables, easy to see if ink inside and whether necessary to top them up, run a couple of cleans and then check. I did once find on a client's 1400 the Epson Status Monitor (had an error that later cleared once fresh cartridges inserted) showed cartridges as being full or at least with ink inside - when the cartridges were removed, it was seen there was in fact little or no ink inside the errant colours. Talking about heads, I noticed a great deal of variation on heads from $25- $175 or more, Is there such a thing as "grey market" heads as in usa cameras and lenses? Again appreciate your help. If my first 2 tries, didn't even budge the 2 colors, is it worth paying the money and trying it one more time? I am almost throwing in the towel, and getting a friend who is mechanically inclined to replace with anonter OEM head. Also they are selling "the magic bullet" solution for $25. I will try the color bars from the site you recommended. I just did another "purge" where i injected a "cleaning combo" windex and alcohol, and again the yellow and black "nozzle check" the yellow and black (the ones next to each other come out totally blank.
